Rustic cedar furniture… A northern white cedar bistro table to be exact. This is a little removed from the idea of a French bistro table as you probably would never find this type of rustic furniture on a Paris sidewalk but what an addition it makes to an American backyard or patio.
Northern white cedar is a naturally resistant to decay and insect damage type of wood, it can also withstand the elements without shrinking or splinting, making it a great wood for outdoor tables.
This set is pretty typical of what can be found in its class, it is heavy, so if you live in a windy area it will serve you well and you won’t be chasing your furniture at the far end of the yard when you forget to bring it in. In fact it is heavy enough and durable enough that you will not need to bring it in. Because of the weight the seller did charge an additional fee to shipping but it was modest and warranted.
The table and stools are sold separately and you should expect to pay in the $200 range for the table alone. I have seen this table for as much as $300 but it can usually be found at a lower price (click on image to find out the best price on this item).
When you receive it, some assembly will be required, but I assure you that is very easy to do and that you will not find it a challenge regardless of your assembly abilities. You will also be able to choose your finish as it is sold unfinished. There is no requirement to paint or stain your new cedar bistro table if you want to keep it natural. Northern white cedar will weather to a very nice silvery gray if left untreated, and will not lose any of it durability properties.
