Patio cushions are commonly used in outdoor areas such as the garden or the porch. They can be used as glider cushions or just as decorations in garden benches. Regardless of how they are used, you will want to know how to choose them so that you get the best value for your money. Here is what you should look for when buying patio cushions.
Patio cushions should be weather resistant. Since they are often used outdoors, it is inevitable they will get wet from the rain or snow. So, you need to look for fabrics that are waterproof and/or can be dried quickly. For the latter, you need to look for
quick drying foam or Dacro. Unlike normal sponge which tend to hold water, these type of foams will absorb less water and can be dried much faster.
They should also be fade resistant. Patio cushions will be exposed to the sun and this will cause their designs and the colors to fade over time, no matter how bright or colorful they used to be. Hence, the fabric should contain some form of UV resistance chemicals to make them last longer in the sun. If not, you need to look for patio replacement cushions after only a year or so when the colors will have faded quite significantly.
Finally, the foam of the patio should be firm and yet conformable. You can test this by pressing against it and see how fast it returns to its original shape. Low quality foam will not re-bounce back so quickly. So if you want high quality patio cushions, make sure the foam is firm and they can return to their shape fairly quickly after a press or two.
If you follow these buying guidelines, you will be able to find something that is durable and long lasting.
