A lawn and garden thrives best during spring and summer. This is because during these two particular seasons, your plants get enough sun that they will need to produce their food. In addition, the soil becomes warm enough to accommodate new growth. Because of this, any garden enthusiast cannot just help but wish that spring and summer stays the whole year round.
Unfortunately, the world does not work that way. With summer and spring comes autumn and winter – the two seasons when almost everything gets to hibernate, even the plants in your lawn and garden. Little by little, they lose their foliage, their flowers and in no time, you will find that you are left with nothing but ugly twigs that are seemed to be propped from the ground. What’s worse than that sight is that, if you do not prepare your plants for autumn and winter, you may end up losing all of them. Winter lawn care is an important thing to accomplish.
Now if you do not want that to happen, then here are the things that you must do to protect your plants from the frost. Until the soil for lawn turns hard with frost, make sure that you water your trees thoroughly. This will ensure that their roots have enough moisture before they hibernate.
Put a wire mesh around the tree trunks. This is necessary to ward off any animals that may want to gnaw on the barks of trees and other hardy plants. If you do not want to deal with a lot of fallen leaves during fall, then you may want to give your trees or some of bushes a trim. When you do this, make sure that you set the leaves aside because you can actually pile these up near roses for example to prevent them from being affected of frost.
Lastly, for you to be sure that you still get to have your plants in your lawn and garden no matter what, then you can try replanting some of them in a pot and putting them indoors. This way, even if your main plant gets to be killed by a terrible frost, you still get to have a back – up plant lying somewhere inside your greenhouse.
